As a DFW photographer, I take a lot of gorgeous photos of delightful people in lovely places in the metroplex and beyond. I pride myself on knowing exactly how to pose my clients and there is nothing I love more than hearing that my clients are usually “awkward in front of the camera” but felt completely at ease with me. But when someone asks me if I would consider doing an 80s Glamour Shot-inspired session complete with intentionally awkward posing, you can bet all your money that I. Am. There.
I’ve known these two sisters since they were still in high-school. Paige and Courtnie have so much fun together and spent who knows how much time scouring DFW thrift stores for outfits and accessories for this shoot. Their relationship as adults gives this mama hope when my kids are in the middle of a sibling “discussion,” which with three boys in the house often ends in wrestling or all out war.
After sending the guys on a run to get “old lady hair spray, like Aqua Net. Do not get anything that looks like I would buys it today,” we got busy on hair and make-up. I have to say, these two might have been born in the wrong decade because they absolutely rocked the 80s hair BIG time (pun intended)!
Honestly, I have never laughed so much during a session. Sometimes as a photographer, I get in the rhythm of using my most flattering poses, putting people at ease, and I don’t have to “think” a lot about it at this point. It was so fun for the creative side of me to have to step outside of the norm and think of what I would NOT do normally. I loved every minute.
In a ridiculously adorable turn of fate, we were able to use their mamas photos from the 80s in a few of the photos. All the heart eyes for multiple generations of beautiful 80s girls.
While part of me is border-line offended that the 80s were sooooooo long ago that they make a hilarious spoof shoot, this may go down as my favorite session of the year.
Go ahead and feast your eyes on this, friends, and then let us know which decade these two should tackle next. Enjoy!
